The Disney Channel phenomenon that inspired a generation comes to the stage in this energetic and heartwarming musical about friendship, identity, and the courage to be yourself. When basketball star Troy Bolton and science whiz Gabriella Montez unexpectedly audition for their school's musical, they challenge the expectations of their classmates—and themselves. As students across East High begin stepping outside of the boxes they've been placed in, they discover that their differences are not obstacles to overcome, but strengths to celebrate. Featuring beloved songs including Start of Something New, Breaking Free, We're All in This Together, and Get'cha Head in the Game, High School Musical Jr. is a joyful celebration of individuality, teamwork, and finding the confidence to pursue what matters most.

At ACT, this production is about more than putting on a musical. It is an opportunity for young people to explore who they are, discover new passions, and learn that they do not have to choose between their interests, talents, or communities in order to belong.

Tuition

Tuition is $650. To reserve a place in the production, a $100 non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of enrollment. The remaining balance is due prior to auditions.

Double Cast Experience

To maximize opportunities for young performers, High School Musical Jr. will feature two casts, allowing more students to take on meaningful roles and performance responsibilities. Students will rehearse and learn alongside a large community of performers while also building strong connections within their individual cast. This structure allows ACT to create additional performance opportunities, increase stage time for participants, and provide more students with the chance to take on challenging and rewarding roles.

Artistic Expectations

High School Musical Jr. is a fast-paced musical that combines acting, singing, and dance. Participants will be challenged to develop strong performance skills while learning how to collaborate effectively as part of a large ensemble. Students should come prepared to work hard, support their peers, and embrace new challenges. Whether performing as a lead character, featured role, or ensemble member, every participant contributes to the success of the production. This production is especially well-suited for performers who enjoy working as part of a team, exploring character relationships, and bringing high-energy storytelling to the stage.

Content & Themes

High School Musical Jr. explores themes of friendship, belonging, self-discovery, teamwork, leadership, and challenging stereotypes. Throughout the story, characters learn that they do not have to fit into a single category or limit themselves to one interest. The musical encourages young people to celebrate their individuality, support one another, and pursue their passions with confidence. The production is appropriate for all audiences and contains themes that resonate strongly with middle school and early high school students navigating questions of identity, community, and personal growth.

Did you know?

ACT Teaching Intern Edwin Noncent, a graduate of Boston Green Academy and current Musical Theatre major, first discovered his passion for theater when he played Troy Bolton in High School Musical. What began as a single role grew into a love of performing that ultimately led him to pursue theater in college in a performance and directing tract. Today, Edwin continues to share that passion with the next generation of young artists as a member of ACT's teaching team.
