Step into the world of Hadestown: Teen Edition, Anaïs Mitchell's Tony Award-winning musical that reimagines the ancient Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, Hades and Persephone through a powerful contemporary lens.

Set in a world where hope and hardship exist side by side, Hadestown explores themes of love, sacrifice, resilience, power, and the choices we make in the face of uncertainty. Featuring a haunting folk and jazz-inspired score, this innovative musical challenges performers to engage deeply with both character and storytelling while creating a truly unforgettable theatrical experience.

As ACT's first production of the season, this program is designed for dedicated young performers who are eager to take artistic risks, collaborate at a high level, and contribute to a production that prioritizes both excellence and ensemble-driven storytelling.

Whether portraying workers in Hadestown, members of the Fates, gods, or lovers fighting for a better future, every performer plays a vital role in bringing this rich and complex world to life.

Tuition

Because rehearsals begin shortly after registration opens, full tuition of $700 is due at the time of registration.

Artistic Expectations

Hadestown is one of the most challenging and rewarding productions in ACT's season. Participants should be prepared for a fast-paced rehearsal process that emphasizes storytelling, ensemble work, character development, movement, and vocal performance.

While principal roles exist within the production, ACT approaches Hadestown as a true ensemble piece. Every performer contributes to creating the world of the show and plays an essential role in the audience's experience.

Students should be excited to collaborate, support one another, and commit to the collective success of the production.

Content & Themes

Hadestown explores themes including love, loss, sacrifice, economic inequality, labor, power, hope, and perseverance. While presented through mythology and music, the show raises questions that remain deeply relevant today about community, justice, and what it means to keep moving forward in difficult times.

The production contains mature themes and emotional subject matter, but is presented in a manner appropriate for teen performers and audiences.
